SmartKoala ("we", "our", or "us") operates the website smartkoala.app. This page explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

1. Information We Collect

We collect information in two ways:

a) Information you provide directly

• Mortgage broker referral form: phone number, email address, and any notes you choose to submit
• Calculator inputs: figures you enter into our calculators (e.g. savings, income, loan amount) — these are stored in your browser's localStorage and are not sent to our servers unless you submit a referral
• Any other information you voluntarily provide to us via email or contact forms

b) Information collected automatically

• Analytics: we use Google Analytics (G-X69PKP6S1T) to collect anonymous data about how visitors use our site, including pages visited, time on page, and device type. This data cannot identify you personally.
• Cookies: we use a small number of functional cookies for calculator localStorage persistence and analytics. We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Deliver our referral service: if you submit the mortgage broker callback form, we pass your contact details and calculator data to our designated mortgage broker partner so they can contact you
• Improve our tools: anonymous analytics data helps us understand which calculators are most useful and where users encounter problems
• Respond to enquiries: if you email us, we use your email to reply

3. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. The only circumstances in which we share data:

• Mortgage broker partner: if you submit the referral form, your phone number, email, notes, and calculator data are sent via a Google Apps Script to a Google Sheet accessible by our mortgage broker partner. They use this information solely to contact you about your enquiry.
• Service providers: we use Google Analytics and Cloudflare Pages to host and analyse our site. These services have their own privacy policies.
• Legal requirements: we may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of SmartKoala or the public.

4. Calculator Data and localStorage

When you use our calculators, the data you enter is saved in your browser's localStorage on your device. This data:

• Is stored only on your device — we do not receive, access, or store calculator inputs on our servers during normal use
• Is only sent to our servers if you voluntarily submit the mortgage broker referral form
• Can be cleared by you at any time via your browser's privacy settings (localStorage is per-browser and per-device)
• Is not used for any other purpose than to pre-fill calculator fields if you return to the same calculator

5. Data Retention

Contact and referral information submitted through our broker referral form is retained only as long as necessary for our broker partner to follow up with you, and is deleted upon request. To request deletion of your referral data, contact us at hello@smartkoala.app.

Anonymous analytics data is retained by Google Analytics in accordance with their data retention policy.

6. Cookies

Cookies used by SmartKoala:

• Analytics cookies (Google Analytics): anonymous, session-based, used to distinguish unique visitors
• Calculator persistence: small data stored in localStorage to remember your calculator inputs between visits (not a traditional HTTP cookie, but serves a similar function)

You can disable cookies in your browser settings. Note that some functionality (e.g. saved calculator inputs) may not work if localStorage is blocked.

7. Your Rights Under Australian Privacy Law

Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), you have the right to:

• Access your personal information (contact us — we don't hold much of it)
• Correct any inaccurate or out-of-date information
• Request deletion of your personal information (where practicable)
• Opt out of marketing communications at any time (we don't send marketing emails)
• Make a complaint if you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles — see contact details below
